Groups
Groups
Learn how to use groups to manage layers on your project.
What are Groups?
Groups contain multiple elements in a single top-level layer. They're useful for easy selection, compositing layers, applying effects, and transforming multiple layers together.
Groups have children layers, and the children's transformations depend on the group's origin. For instance, if you move a group, all its children will move the same distance.
Groups are nondestructive, preserving individual layers, making them an excellent tool for efficiently organizing and managing layers in your project.
Group Dimensions
Group size is influenced by the elements it contains. Access size settings in the "Dimensions" section on the Inspector.
Resizing Behavior
Hug: Dynamically adjusts based on contents (default).
Fixed: Dimensions remain constant, giving complete control.
You can apply separate resizing behavior for width and height.
Dimensions
Displays current dimensions of the group.
Editable for Fixed resizing, non-editable for Hug resizing.
Clip Contents
Checkbox to hide items outside group dimensions.
Useful when group size is smaller than contents.
Creating Groups
Select multiple layers and use the keyboard shortcut
⌘
G
Right-click on the selected layers and choose "Group selection."
Click the Group button on the toolbar.
Ungrouping
Use hotkey
⌘
⇧ Shift
G
Right-click and select "Ungroup," or drag the layer out on the Timeline.
Ungrouping an entire group will remove the group from your project but maintain the children layers in the positions they are in.
