Learn how to crop video
There are 3 ways to crop video in Fable:
Use the artboard to crop anything that extends beyond it’s edges
Resize the bounding box of the video layer
Creating and linking a shape mask to the video layer
How to link a shape mask to a video layer:
Click (and hold) the mask icon found in the layer controls on the right side of the shape layer. Drag your mouse until you see a blue arrow coming form the mask icon. Hover over the layer you want to apply the mask to and release your mouse click.
How to edit the mask properties:
Once you have a mask linked to a layer, the mask icon will toggle to it’s active state (blue). Tapping on this icon will open the mask properties panel. The panel is split into two sections: “Masking” and “Masked By”. Masking shows the layers that are currently being masked by your mask layer. Masked By shows the mask layers that are applied to the current layer you have selected.
From here, you can edit how the mask is behaving using the three icons on the right side of each mask layer item. You can toggle the mask type from Alpha to Luma, Invert the mask, or remove the layer from the mask to unlink them.
💡 Mask layer order: Masking layers in Fable behaves differently from other software like Adobe After Effects. In Fable, the layer order doesn’t matter, just how they’re linked together. You can also mask entire groups in your layer panel, and even place the mask inside the group it’s masking without affecting any of the layer/mask links.
