Learn how to export a GIF
Once you have your animation ready to go, click the Export button in the top right corner of the editor.
This will open the Exports panel which displays a list of past exports from the project. Using the tabs at the top of the panel, you can see both your own exports (My Exports) as well as exports made by any of your team members (Team exports)
Clicking the + button in the top right corner of the Exports panel will trigger the Export modal
To export a GIF, Click the “Image” format option in the left-side panel of the Export modal
Once you have the “Image” format selected, the right-side panel will update to display both the Export settings and the Advanced Options (collapsed by default)
Use the Export settings to set your File name, Format, Export window, and Frame size.
File name: Set the name of your exported GIF file Format: Use the dropdown to select the GIF Format (selected by default) Export window: Use the dropdown to choose between Full timeline, Active work area (selected by default), or Current Frame. Frame size: Set the size of your export by adjusting either the overall scale of the entire export, or by adjusting the width (W) or height (H) fields to specific values.
Once you have your Export settings set to your liking, you can expand then adjust the Advanced Options by clicking the > button next to the “Advanced Options” label
Once expanded, you can use the Advanced Options section to adjust the Loop, Frame rate, Palette size, Dither, and Anti-aliasing of your export.
Loop: Choose whether you want your GIF to loop Once, or loop Forever. Frame rate: Use the dropdown to select your desired Frame rate (the Frame rate of your project will be selected by default) Palette size: Use the dropdown to adjust the amount of colors in your GIF
💡 GIF’s can only have 256 different colors or less. You can reduce the file size of your GIF by making the palette size smaller. If you project uses more than 256 colors, dithering will be applied.
Dithering: Use the dropdown to adjust the dithering (applying noise to prevent large-scale error patterns like color banding) method used on your export. Classic (Floyd-Steinberg) is selected by default. Anti-aliasing: Decide if you want anti-aliasing (technique to combat potential distortion and artifacts) to be applied to your export.
Once you have all your Export settings setup how you want them, click the Export button in the bottom right corner of the Export modal to start your export.
This will close the Export modal and add your export to the Export panel shown at the beginning. Fable will queue your export, process your export, then finally it will start the actual export process. You can track the progress of your export using the progress loading bar found just below the export title.
Once the export is complete, a download button will appear on the far right side of the export item. Clicking this button will download your newly exported GIF.
